Process Skills - how your child thinks about what they have to do, what they are going to do, and what they are going to use to do it.
Will effect both Motor and Process Skills
Paces: how your child is able to perform a task, do they take a long time to move through the steps.
- Attends: your child's ability to focus on what they are doing for the entire time. They may lack the ability to focus and become distracted.
- Chooses: what your child chooses to use to complete a particular task, or do they need guidance in order to do this effectively.
- Handles: can your child handle a particular object appropriately e.g., not dropping an egg or placing down a heavy object instead of just letting it fall.
- Initiates: do they know when to move onto the next step in a sequence or do they get stuck or confused.
- Continues: is your child able to perform a task until its completion or do they get distracted.
- Sequences: can your child work through a task in a logical manner effectively, or do they do things out of order or in ways that do not make sense.
- Terminates: is your child able to detect when a task is over or do they get stuck on a single task.
- Searches/locates: can your child find the correct equipment needed, and organize those materials. Do they know that different materials may be in a variety of places.
- Gathers: can get the tools or materials they need and put them in the space were they are going to work, or does your child scatter the things they are going to use.
- Organizes: is your child able to organize what they need to collect and position them so that they are easy to get during an activity, or do they struggle with arranging things in a logical manner.
- Restores: does your child put things back where they got them from when they are finished or, do they leave a work space messy.
- Notices/Responds: is your child aware of their surroundings. Do they notice if someone wants them to do something by reading non-verbal cues. Are they able to avoid a drawer that has been left open, or do they bump into it.
- Accommodates: is your child able to correct something they have done wrong or stop themselves from doing it.
